Consolidated
Libraries
The Consolidated
Libraries are located in the Consolidated Information Center (CIC)
on the Washington State University at Tri-Cities campus at 2770
University Drive in Richland, Washington. Separate U.S. Postal Service
mailing addresses are given for the component libraries on their
respective pages as linked below.
The
Consolidated Libraries identify, obtain, organize, and provide electronic,
printed, and other information resources and services to our clientele.
We also serve as a gateway to the world's information sources through
our four components:
the Hanford Technical Library, the U.S. Department of Energy Public
Reading Room, the Max E. Benitz Memorial Library of Washington State
University at Tri-Cities, and the Southeastern Washington Business
Information Center.
The Hanford
Technical Library (HTL) is operated as a service to the
Hanford Site by the Pacific
Northwest National Laboratory. The HTL provides scientific
and technical information support for the Laboratory, the
Hanford contractors, and the U.S. Department of Energy's Richland
Operations Office. The extensive electronic and print collections
of the HTL are also available to WSU Tri-Cities faculty, staff,
and students. Their catalog, Leona,
is available on the Web.
The CIC Libraries
house the U.S. Department of Energy's regional Public
Reading Room, also operated by the Pacific Northwest National
Laboratory. The Public Reading Room makes information on the Department
of Energy and Hanford's activities available to the public. The
Reading Room is set up to facilitate browsing through its collections.
The WSU Tri-Cities
Max E. Benitz Memorial Library is one of
four campus libraries operated by the Washington
State University (WSU) system. The other three libraries are:
Spokane Campus' Cooperative
Academic Library, the Intercollegiate Center for Nursing's Betty
M. Anderson Library, and the WSU
Vancouver Library.
The Benitz Library provides access to information
for faculty, students, and staff, and the public, in support of
their research and educational needs.
The Southeastern
Washington Business Information Center (BIC) provides assistance
to business owners to improve competitiveness through information,
education, training, and counseling. The Southeastern Washington
BIC is available to help businesses east of the Cascades and south
of Spokane in Washington State. BIC library materials can be checked
out by library patrons with a valid WSU ID card or WSU Temporary
Borrowers card. An application for a library card can be obtained
at the circulation desk.
The
Consolidated Libraries house an on-site collection of over a million
items including books, periodicals, government documents, microfilm,
microfiche, electronic databases and reference materials for a total
of more than a million items. A current
list of periodicals received in printed form
is available. The Web link to the Hanford Technical Catalog
Leona provides access to their
holdings. The Web link to the WSU Griffin Gateway, that provides
access to the WSU catalog as well as to FirstSearch, ProQuest and
many other online services is: http://www.wsulibs.wsu.edu/
Facilities
include study carrels for individual study, tables for quiet group
study, a reading area for current journals, and a conference-classroom
providing space for classes, library orientation, meetings, or group
study.
Off-campus
access to the Library's electronic services are also available,
information.
WSU
faculty, staff, and students may check out circulating materials
from the Hanford Technical Library. Hanford Technical Library customers
may check out WSU Benitz Library circulating materials, as can members
of the general public when processed as Temporary Borrowers.
Wireless computer
access to the campus network, and the Library's electronic resources,
is available in the library and around campus to currently enrolled
WSU TC students owning laptop computers with a wireless modem.
The computers must first be registered with campus Computer Services,
CIC Rm. 225. Laptop computers with built-in wireless modems are also
available for students to check out from the Library Circulation
Desk.
Columbia
Basin College (CBC) students may borrow WSU Library materials and
WSU students may borrow materials from the CBC Library. Click
