Our Mission
The writing center at WSU Tri-Cities has as its central mission to create a space where writers in any discipline, working on any kind of writing project, can find resources. Whether it be to work one-on-one with our tutors, use the computers, or use the space to work collaboratively with others, the writing center offers broadsupport to all WSU Tri-Cities undergraduates.
How it Works
Though appointments are available, they are not necessary. Most students who use the writing center walk in at their leisure to talk to the available tutors. Please bring as much as you can with you: the instructor's writing assignment sheet (or syllabus), your drafts and notes, books you intend to use, questions you have, and/or a willingness to engage the writing process seriously. Tutors are trained to help you help yourself, but we are not an editing service (though we are willing to help you with editing strategies). You are welcome to visit us any number of times you would like, and we are absolutely free to WSU students.
How We Can Help You
Tutors are prepared to help you with several different types of composition issues:
- Reviewing the Assignment
- Prewriting and Invention
- Drafting and Research
- Revising, Editing and Polishing
- Documenting Sources
- Basic Computer and Printing Assistance
Not only do tutors have experience in helping students with these kinds of writing challenges, they are also students who understand what it is like to be a student. Writers of all levels can use support to help improve their drafts, and the writing center exists for those who wish to not only get help with that next paper, but to also help those who wish to grow as writers generally. Though our services are intended for undergraduates only, tutors are prepared to help with writing assignments from the sciences, social sciences, education, the humanities, and others. Just bring in you work in progress and we will do our best to help you improve your writing.
